Request Forest Planning Rule Comment Extension

The Forest Service is seeking public comment about developing a new direction for National Forest Land Management Planning. The official comment period will end 2/16/2010, but please read the following and take action even if that date has past.

The 60 comment period the Forest Service provided is just not enough to allow the public to comment on this extremely important planning process. This plan will effect the future management of every National Forest.

Please ACT NOW to send the Forest Service a letter asking for an 120-180 day extension. Click below to create your letter in just Two Minutes by selecting the single predrafted comment. Feel free to add your own comments.

The newly proposed Forest Planning Rule will apparently shift from multiple use management of your Forests to focus more on closing roads and trails or what they refer to as "restoration". According to the Forest Service press release "the Forest Service has identified a set of potential principles that could guide development of a new planning rule. Among these principles are an emphasis on restoration, conservation, and the improved resilience of ecosystems; watershed health; climate change response; species diversity and wildlife habitat; sustainable National Forest System lands; proactive collaboration; and working across landscapes."

Even if you are reading this after the deadline of 2/16/2010 it is still extremely important that you spend TWO MINUTES to send a letter requesting an extension.
